President’s Corner

At the last meeting, we were supposed to have our Non-Pilot Fly Out. Well, Mother Nature decided to rain on our 'parade'. Just as the flights were to commence, a storm decided to make its appearance. Jerry Bailie volunteered to be one of the pilots for the evening so Jim Ramsey got into the Propbusters airplane with Jerry. Off in the distance was the storm front that looked like it was going to miss us, but it was not to be. Jerry and Jim got to go around the airfield before the front started in so we gave Jim the honor of becoming the chapter's first Storm Chaser. Jerry did a great job of handling the C-150 in a strong headwind.

We are going to host another Non-Pilot Fly-out for the July Meeting. So come on out, bring a friend and, hopefully, enjoy a nice calm, quiet, peaceful and dry evening.

We have a couple good things to report this month. First of all, the new Chapter Building is finally on it way. It's due to arrive on or after June 28. Tom Cucarese will be giving a full report in this newsletter. Tom will also be calling a special meeting on the Building, seeking volunteers and those with special talents help out with the building's construction and development.

And another bit of information. As you know, our Chapter is helping out with getting together a skydiving event for the Thunder in the Ville this coming weekend. If enough people are interest in doing a tandem jump, there is a possibly that a skydiving school might be started at the airpark. And our new building might be able to help out. Rick Ramsey has put in a lot of time and effort to get this off the ground in the hope that this will bring a new activity to the airpark. We will be setting up a booth at the event and helping the Skydivers by signing up jumpers. We will also be having a bake sale at the booth and selling some toy airplanes, Volunteers will be needed.

Don’t forget to make it to the Chapter Picnic to be held starting at 6:00pm Saturday, June 26, at the Chapter's new hanger building site. Hot dogs and drinks will be supplied by the Chapter. Picnic will be pot luck.

See you all there, we will have the best seats in the house.

Ride of a life time.

Fellow member Jerry Goodwin got to go for a B-17 ride when it was at the Ohio County airport. He sent some pictures 1, 2 to share with us. Jerry says the cost of the ride was well worth it and you can only imagine what it was like.

New Pilot

Congratulations to Don Green. Don has competed his flight training and has passed his Flight Test. Welcome to the ranks.

News

I am sad to report that fellow Chapter Member “Bill Freeman” passed away on Monday, June 14. Bill has been part of Jefferson County Airpark going back to when it was still called Wintersville Airport. He was always very active in aviation. He was with the Army Air Corps. during WWII. Bill was also very active with the airport, always helping out with electrical problems both on the runway and in the old Hanger Office. When there was a call for help Bill was the first to answer, he always had a list of contacts or a favor that he could collect on to get the job done. If you needed something he would have it or know where to find it.

Bill and Mary joined the chapter when it was formed. When there was a fly-in, airshow or a special event, you could count on them always pitching in. Bill would be hard at work and his wife Mary would be supplying the Coffee and Doughnuts always having enough for everybody.

The day of his funeral, the pilots of the airpark got together and did a fly-by for him. I am sure Bill was flying in the right seat with someone that day.

He will be missed but not forgotten, for he has left something of himself in everyone he has ever touched. Rest in peace, dear Friend.

Just a reminder about an upcoming Safety Seminar at Wheeling, WV, that you

Hi,All.

Just a reminder that this is the big weekend and we need all your help at the Festival site. I need volunteers for the parade line-up and everyone to be at the Festival throughout the day.

Those of you volunteering to help at the parade line-up need to be there by 8:00 a.m. It is important that we not permit any parade participants to enter into the newly blacktopped areas of the parking lot. We are not to permit them to leave their vehicles there either. We are permitted to use the upper two lots, the east-west road, and the road down into the soccer fields. We can also use Motif's parking lot.

See you there.
