President’s Corner
Hello everyone, this will be my last President's Corner.  Starting this month we are going to introduce a new segment to the newsletter. It's called "Hanger Talk". Instead of me rattling on every month, we are going to talk about what'is happening at the hanger with a summary of its actitivies during the month. Since we started having the Satuday get togethers, more members are coming out and we are seeing new faces, and having fun. This is what an EAA Chapter is supposed to be all about, learning and having fun while doing it. We'll also add pictures taken throughout the month. Newsletter Editor Don Green will continue to bring you stories of interest involving Sport Aviation, continued updates on any new FAA news and regulations and news and pictures of member projects as they progress along. We are always looking for ideas to improve. Got any? Let us know.
See you Saturday.

Hanger Talk
Over the last month, there as been a lot of work accomplished inside and outside of the hanger. Slowly but surely things are coming together... With each passing Saturday something new is added to the building. Thanks to Rich Jeffers, the airplane tug is up and running. A new paint job is in the works. We also got some peg boards mounted on the walls for the three different areas of the hanger: the Prop Busters area, the work shop area, and a ultility area. And, as always, lots of coffee and donuts.

Thanks to the many members who took part in that project. We also received some new donations for the hanger. A unknown person left a brand new leaf blower for cleaning up the hanger floor. Many thanks to whomever you might be.
On one Saturday we did get the chance to open the hanger door to enjoy the warm weather. Activity at the airpark was at an all time high for the year, with many of the based pilots going up for a flight or two. One of those flights was Ken Crowley's new Glassair. What a nice sight to see. Now there's an airplane that knows how to break the bonds of Earth. We had visits from many of the airparks based pilots, just stopping in to see why all the cars were there. We think it was the good assortment of donuts and the smell of coffee. If you are free starting at 10:00 am till whatever on a Saturday come on out to the airpark, you never know what might be going on or what new project we will be working on. One thing for sure you will hear a lot of hanger flying and have a lot of fun.

Dave

"Cleaning Crew"

"When do we start carving some Props?"

Wood, Glue, Rivets & Dreams - Ken Crowley's Glassair 2.

197 mph GS on the GPS, in a 500 fpm climbing turn doing 2500 rpm. Note mixture and throttle position. There is still more performance in there. Any questions?

Question of the Month
What is the correct navigation term, is it dead or ded. reckoning.
- I think it should be ded., as in deduced but please let me know your thoughts. - Ed.

Recycling Report
Thanks to the many members taking part in this project, Last month we turned in a check in for $103.00 weighing in at about 5000 lbs. This has been an easy fund raising project for our Chapter, and has played a major role in this building. Now it will again play a new role in a future worthwhile Chapter project. Keep it coming.

New Chapter Member
We would like to welcome Mike Bauman to the Chapter. Mike is from Toronto, Ohio. He is building a Wagabond. Mike stopped over at the Hanger last Saturday and we got a chance to get to know him. Mike is a Naval reservist Seabee and his unit is going to be called up to go over to Iraq soon.  You guys with wood building experence, give Mike a call.

Sun & Fun - April 4th to 10th, Lakeland Florida.
If any member is planning on going, jot down some notes and let's put a report together for our members who can't make it, thanks - Ed

Engine Beat - (AvWeb)
Lycoming has come to the rational conclusion that there's a market for custom engines, and it might as well have a piece of it. So five shops -- Aerosport Power, Barrett Precision Engines, G&N Aircraft, Teledyne Mattituck Services and Triad Aviation -- will start selling Lycoming kit engines. Part of the program is a new flexibility in ordering. The shops can specify certain combinations of parts that don't appear in nature. Lycoming then creates a parts sheet and fills the order. The local shop takes the parts and builds you an engine.

Other news from Lycoming isn't really news at all, but it's now official that roller tappets are part of every kit engine and are an option on a great many factory new and overhauled engines.

Short Final... (thanks to AvWeb)
Heard while established on a seven-mile final to Runway 1 at Republic Airport in Farmingdale, NY (FRG) January 1, 2002...
Arrow N1234: Republic Tower, Arrow 1234 nine miles north, landing with Victor.
Tower: Arrow 234 report the right downwind Runway 1.
Arrow 234: Tower, any chance we could get a straight in?
Tower: Arrow 234, you did say you were north didn't you?
Arrow 234: Yes, we are 7 mile s north.
Tower: Arrow 234, understand the only way I can give you a straight in for 1 is if I turn you around and have you continue for about 24,000 miles.

I had a little trouble navigating a straight approach while laughing so hard.
