Welcome to my Long-Ez aircraft and Aerial Conservancy project. Please show your support by Liking us on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/aerialconservancy?ref=hl
I selected the Long-Ez design as it is an exceptional aircraft, designed by Burt Rutan. It holds over 100 world records. This includes an endurance record of officially 4800 miles non stop and also an altitude record maintaining 35 027 feet with a normally aspirated engine.
It carries 52 gallons in standard tanks which provides about 2000 mile range and is capable of speeds in excess of 200 miles per hour! For more info see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rutan_Long-EZ
My intention is to use the aircraft to kick off a Global Anti Poaching non profit organization called Aerial Conservation that provides air support and logistics. An organization that maintains a fleet of aircraft, rotocraft and drones of all sorts equiped with imaging and real time telemetry equipment to support game wardens on the ground and special forces operatives retained by our organization who assist the wardens when required. To work with news media and television to highlight the plight of endangered animals that are being killed such as Elephant and Rhino. In so many places people act as if the earth has endless resources to plunder and that we can just move on to other planets when all is gone. We have to do better with leadership, immediate action, public awareness and education. If you want to be part of a movement that will make a difference then please contact me at the link above.
For a background on the poaching nightmare read this and this: http://www.sanparksvolunteers.org/ and http://www.uniteagainstpoaching.co.za/
Long term the real solution is political and I am happy to report that there is movement in this field, see latest:

Other parts now completed include the main wing spar, the strakes which are the inboard section of the wings that contain the fuel tanks and the engine cowls. I have obtained a 165 hp Subaru 2.5 litre engine that has about 400 hours of testing in a similar aircraft. This water cooled auto engine was chosen as it will be better for use in the high temperatures of the African bush, it uses regular auto gas, is fuel injected (no carburetor icing) with no mixture control for easier and safer operation. Subaru also has distribution in South Africa so parts are easier and considerably cheaper to source when compared to a regular aircraft engine.
